I do not really know if a rangefinder camera, that I am not familiar with, will attract Leica fans because it can use Ernst Leitz lenses, Zeiss and Voigtlander lenses as well. I am not a Leica fan but if I had Leitz lenses I would surely wanted them mounted on a Leica.
I own an Olympus Pen camera. It is also a rangefinder camera, small and light that can go anywhere in a pocket. Olympus, now OM Digital Solutions, manufactures excellent optics for it. I use this camera often and especially when traveling and I am very satisfied with its images. It makes for a very good street camera, something I do not practice since I am more into landscapes.
Time will tell if the Pixii rangefinder will be successful among photographers, mainly those who are Leica fans.
Gut feeling says it will have a small fan-base...

I don’t think the PEN is an actual rangefinder camera. The Pixii will probably mostly appeal to those who want to use a rangefinder camera but don’t want to endure the expense of a Leica.

I agree. I don’t see it replacing Leica rangefinder cameras, and the fact that it is manual focus without all the bells and whistles of DSLRs and MILCs will limit it’s appeal.

The Olympus PEN F is NOT a rangefinder camera. It is a regular mirrorless camera. A major difference between my PEN F and my EM1 mk III is the location of the viewfinder otherwise they are essentially the same.
Lecia M cameras and the Pixii are rangefinder cameras as they use a rangefinder for focusing. Such cameras are not good for macro, or long telephoto use. They are actually quite good for Photographing in low light and for photographing people. Note no autofocus!
Making an APS-C but not making lenses for it is a bad thing. If you are going to use the Leica M lenses then make it with the same size sensor as the Leica M.
