A personal check. Wait for it to clear the bank. Even easier, a postal money order, as good as cash, but with a name on it!
I don't use PayPal either, but haven't had any problems.

If the dollar amount is quite large, an alternative is a cashiers' check from a bank. Do not accept a certified check, that is a different animal altogether and is not a demand on the bank.

PayPal goods and services is about as secure as you can get.
