I'll be out for most of the day, and I want to bring a small belt camera. I haven't used one in a long time, so I knew the battery would need charging. Two issues: how do I get at the battery, and where is the charger? ๐
After figuring out how to open that battery compartment, I looked for a charger. I have all the "popular" chargers attached to a board inside a drawer. These little cameras have separate chargers that are somewhat scattered. The batteries for the Canon and the Sony are almost identical, yet they use different chargers. They are just a couple of millimeters apart in size, but they are not interchangeable. Anyway, I found a charger for the Sony WX9, so I'm ready to go. Now where did I put those SD cards?
remember the Canons with AA batteries?..those were the days...๐

Right! I could always AA batteries.
With some of the older compacts the manufacturers did away with the need for a charger by providing a USB cable for in-camera charging. That idea will never catch on

Some current ones do that too. My Lumix models do.

That was just my attempt at facetiousness
. In-camera charging is becoming a more frequent feature, even among the larger FF cameras where heat build-up has been a concern in the past.

I got those for staff to use because when on site if a failure of battery the AA were universally available.
Is a belt camera just a camera that clips on your beltโฆ.or is there more to it?

Yeah, I've never liked that idea. It's fine, but just not for me.

Don't you have any universal camera battery chargers, Jerry?

I do charge my TG-6 with a micro-USB cord but even though my other cameras will charge in camera I usually just swap the battery out and put a fresh one in, never have to stop shooting.

The handiest camera I ever had is a Canon Photoshot A1200 (mine is 2013 vintage). Yes this is a point and shoot camera and not good enough for many types of high quality photography. But on the plus side it is very small, has a viewfinder, is low priced and I carry it easily in my shirt pocket with a neck strap . . . much more convenient than carrying on my belt. I hardly am aware that I have it with me, and I can whip it out faster than you can see me do it. There are many other cameras similar in size.

Forgot to mention that my Canon A1200 uses AA batteries. I use rechargeable Eneloops or something similar. Works great.
