In 1972 I was on a US Submarine and we were getting ready to pull into Messina on the surface in the Straits of Messina when a hi-speed ferry hit us in the Starboard stern (the ferries fault) it broke off one blade of the starboard Screw (prop) and bent over our stern light. Our OOD took great actions to reduce the impact. The ferry sunk quickly but the good thing is no lives were lost on the ferry. So instead of pulling into Messina we limped into Naples on the good screw and limited turns on the damaged screw, to replace the screw. I was really looking forward to pulling into Messina because we have been in Naples many times. Italy is my most favorite Country because I rate the country by its Food (not tourists food but what the locals eat)

I was ASW crew on P3's and stationed in Sigonella Sicily in the early 70's - loved the island and the food - in the late 70's I was on a carrier deployed to the Med and Naples was our primary port - so much to see in Italy and not enough time - would love to go there and spend a few months...

When I went through the RAG at PAX as a pilot I was hoping to get a squadron on the east coast back in 69 so I could deploy to Sigonella. My last name literally means little one from Messina. Instead I got sent to Moffett and did West Pac deployments, oh well! Loved flying the P3B.

Your photos are all good. What I wonder, is why you go to the extra step of identifying all of them as JPEG. Any photo I post on UHH is automatically a jpeg and in the sRGB mode.

I went through PAX in the spring of '70 and got Brunswick ME in P3B's - in '80, I ended up at Moffett in P3C's - did a stint as CNAP NATOPS - transferred to the Kitty Hawk and ended up back on the east coast - crazy tours but would do them all again...
