There seem to be many different entries here based on travels. Animals tend to be a prime photo shoot but landscapes, families, etc. draw many entries also. While the subjects vary the fact that the shooter was traveling is the common factor. Why does management not make a travelogue board available?

There is a trave section. Have you checked it out.

You could do what I do... I made a folder in my computer I named " Travel Tips ", which under I made sub-folders by location (ie: states, National Parks, or countries). When I come across a location I think I may want to visit, I copy the pertinent info to a word document that I then place/save to that folder. When planning a vacation/trip I reference this information. I have accumulated an extensive amount of information using this method! The photos in UHH are particularly informative to me, as are the accompanying descriptions/information provided of the locations.
I started the travel section on UHH, but the competition from the main forum simply over shadowed the travel section so it had very little information or contribution to it. In another forum I frequent (finances) a moderator places various topics into their proper categories. There are rules that disallow people to get insulting or get off topic. Moderators will remove or move such posts. Frequent violators are removed from the forum. It makes for much deeper and more informed discussions. But, moderating takes time, people and supportive policies. In this case, the main forum is kind of a free-for-all where any topic (with a few exceptions, such as selling gear) can remain in the main forum section. I was willing to work on the travel section, but was not willing to swim upstream against the main forum to get more traffic in the travel section. I am not the one who financially benefits from more clicks. A travel section, in my opinion, could be a very rich site...techniques, evaluation of photos, where to travel, accommodations and logistics, equipment, cultural competence for taking shots in certain locals, etc. It has a lot of potential.
The other forum has a "wiki" section where reputable people contribute factual information, and sometimes debate over certain issues, but conversation is limited, if not totally stopped. On UHH, the mindless drivel about raw vs. jpeg is but one example. There are facts about each format that are not disputable. Want to argue over full frame, vs. crop frame, vs. M43...there actually are facts that experts mostly agree on...such as M43 has some pretty severe low light issues (I shoot M43 and know them full well.) There are tests that prove this point. But people argue over it, misunderstand it, make up stuff, have no clue or simply want to argue, fight, insult. A "wiki" on UHH would be excellent...people could look and use it as a reference. And cut the nonsense. But, alas, each blog site has its own DNA.
I am not inclined to work on something for free when I have to compete against the very forum I am trying to improve. So, I generally look elsewhere for photographic education and won't waste my time.
So, I no longer moderate the Travel Section and only peruse UHH once in a while.
There are currently over 50 specialty sections! Click
here for the list.
UHH Owner (user name Admin) is willing to create new sections as long as someone volunteers to manage. Hip Coyote's observations and experiences accurately describe the challenges of attracting participants to any of the boutiques
Just for kicks, I went to the site recommended, it’s basically for photo trip tips. Tips being the operative word. Its name should probably be “Travel Photography Tips.” I think a new site might be “Travelogue Photography.” Operative word here being Travelogue. Anyway, that’s my my 5 cents worth…..inflation considered, lol.

Just as Main Discussion Forum dominates all discussion areas, the specialty sections for sharing
photos are overshadowed by the giant Photo Gallery.
Most participants on UHH are not interested in having their photos critiqued or viewed by just a few users, so most gravitate to Photo Gallery where they have established friendships or know they will find postings and inspiration from their favorite UHH photographers.
If you, or the OP of this thread, or anyone else is interested in forming yet another section (there are more than 50 already), here's how:

I for one would be most grateful if people posting their travel pics would use the Travel section and not clutter the main section with all of their vacation snapshots.

If you use the "newest pictures" link at the top of any UHH page, you can see a thumbnail of images posted in the sections to which you're subscribed. Click on a photo to be taken to that topic. No need for disappointment!
If you find offending photos in Main Discussion Forum, simply click the "report issue" button underneath the post, select the reason from drop-down menu and send. If the thread belongs in Photo Gallery, Admin will move the topic. No more angst!
