Least Bittern moments before it pounced.
Sony a9, Sony 100-400mm @ 400mm, f6.3, 1/1250 sec. iso 25600
The Least Bittern was in a lot of shadow and I had to really up the iso to make sure I could get him when he moved and would not be blurred. Aperture Priority. My wheel on the back of the camera is set for iso, so as I look through the viewfinder I can simply rotate the iso to get the shutter speed I feel I need.
This is a very allusive bird and for good reason, larger birds like the Great Egret and Great Blue Heron and Wood Stork will gladly take these birds if they get a chance. Best to stay hidden.
Those claws are a cruel detail of this predator. Neat.
Another excellent shot, Bill!
