Need suggestions for a good carrying strap for a camera and 70 -400 mm lens.
I don't think the harness type would work for me.

Blackrapid sling which comes in both right- and left-handed versions. Allows your shoulder to bear the weight, with the camera hanging upside down at your side. I've used mine with Nikon D500 + 200-500mm lens, and with Canon R5 + 100-500mm lens, with the strap attached to the tripod mount of the lens. With a smaller/lighter lens, attach the strap to the camera.

Peak Design has a wide range with easy on/off connectors.

I use the OpTech Utility Strap.
The OpTech is generally less than other straps and it carries the camera by BOTH strap lugs for better security.

I use the OpTech sling straps also, but even though I put connectors on both strap lugs, I usually only connect to one while shooting. I do love the OpTech system. Have many assorted straps and slings that serve me well. Plus made in USA.

I use the same approach for my Nikon D850 with 200-500 zoom. But I can't just let the rig dangle from my shoulder when moving, so the strap takes about 50% of the weight, and my grip on the tripod mount carries the other 50% and keeps it all steady. This is a very low-tech approach to the issue. You can get way more complicated and spend a lot less money for not nearly as good results as this.

I'm an OpTech fan too.

Regardless of what you choose for a strap, consider the OpTech shoulder pad to add to it.

Look into cotton carrier and peak design products. I think they have better solutions than a strap especially if hiking around in the back country especially with a heavy rig you have.

I would like to amend my previous statement above.
I'm an OpTech fan too because the only other strap I have tried is the almost useless strap that comes with the cameras.
OpTech/USA straps really do a great job for me (Cost/Value Ratio) and the price is such that I'm not tempted to use the Black Rapid and other high $$$ straps touted here on UHH.
Black Rapid and the other straps have such loyal fans I am sure that they are quality products too.
Best Wishes,

WRT OpTech/USA Straps: If they don't sell them you don't need them!
