Can You experienced GIMP users recommend to this GIMP beginner, a good Tutorial Book on Learning GIMP for Beginners. Your personal experience with such a book would be appreciated.
There is no shortage of Books about learning GIMP, but which ones are the really good ones?
Thanks for your imput.
I always used video lessons but I'm sure books are quite helpful.

I’m a retired software engineer, so my experience may not apply, but I found that the things I’d already learned about Photoshop easily transferred to gimp.

I've learned a lot from the YouTube series of tutorials from Davies Media Design. He also has a course on Udemy that will step you through from beginning to end. Check him out on

I am a heavy Gimp user, but I've never used a book. I didn't know there was such a thing. There is a detailed online manual you can get from their web site, and tons of YouTube videos about basic operations and about particular procedures.
As with any such software, you just start with the basics. Learn how to import, crop, and export. Then try out the Colors pull-down menu. One might not know where to begin. But you just begin with some basics, and try something new every day.

My response is similar to Mark S's.
Note from the wikipedia page:
GIMP (Image Manipulation Program) is a free and open-source raster graphics editor[4] used for image manipulation (retouching) and image editing, free-form drawing, transcoding between different image file formats, and more specialized tasks. It is not designed to be used for drawing, though some artists and creators have used it for such.[5]
