Does anyone have an opinion about the Epson XP8700 printer? I am thinking of purchasing one and the reviews seem pretty good.

Never used one BUT, after owning a Epson ET-2750, I'll never buy another Epson printer. I've had Okiedata, Cannons, HP printers with zero issues, even the cheap ones. This was my first Epson printer and it basically sucks. Nozzles are perpetually clogged, and need cleaned before thinking about printing. At first it was just the colors that failed. Now the black fails as well, making it useless even for printing text files. I've read a lot of folks complain about other Epson printers with the same unacceptable behavior, making me a very, very unlikely future customer.

I have an Epson XP-8600 and have used it for the past 2 years without any problems. The ink cartridges are reasonably priced and the photo print quality is quite good for the price.

After having numerous issues over the years with HP, Canon, and Brother printers, last year I bought an Epson ET-4850 printer. The BEST printer I’ve ever owned! Zero issues with this printer. I’m STILL on the original ink supply! With my last HP printer by now I would have gone through three more sets of ink cartridges at $170 a set.
You may have gotten a lemon, unfortunately.

I would have thought I got a lemon, however after reading lots of others having similar issues, I personally wouldn't take the chance on getting another lemon. As far as ink goes however, the ink bottles are extremely low cost compared to all the other printers I've owned, and is the primary reason I bought this particular printer. The only socially redeeming value it has is the enormous amount of ink you get for just $60. Unfortunately, the majority of ink I use goes for "deep cleaning" the nozzles which uses an incredible amount of ink. Not saying the 4850 isn't good, but just noting my personal experience with the ET-2750. All the other brands of printers I've owned worked fine, except for the ridiculous cost of ink.

My opinion of Epson printers is never again.
My last Epson printer had print head issues and leaked ink all over my desk and stored paper.
I now use a Canon printer for photos and Brother for word processing.

My first printer was an Epson dot-matrix, FX-80 I think. That was a great printer & subsequently I got numerous Epson ink jet printers. Every Single ONE had clogging issues. I finally gave up and went to Canon. Never looked back.

I gave up.on inkjet printers because everytime I wanted to print something, the print heads needed cleaning or the cartridges were out of ink. I know that if I printed something everyday they would have probably served me well. They were from all the major printer manufacturers.

I solved my problem by buying a laser printer. Oh, yes the ones we can afford don't print photos very well. They do print, what I call "proofs", fairly well. They print documents, charts and graphs that look great.

After printing proofs of photos, I send the ones I want to keep, out to a photo lab. Most of them produce very good photos. Two to three years of going to photo labs are about equal to the price of a home printer, for me, and the quality is always great.

I bought an Epson Stylus R 1800 photo printer a few years back. It printed beautiful pictures at first. Then i had all the problems already described by other users, clogged nozzels, dry ink inside printer that self cleaning by printer would not ameliorate/correct the problems. It has been sitting on a corner desk collecting dust and I am going to throw it into the trash barrel next week.

I have 3 canon printers. The first one is a PIXMA pro 9000 mk2. I have been using it for at least 11 or 12 years with virtually no problems. Sometimes it will sit for months and I will turn it on and start printing. Over the years I have run the cleaning/maintenance program maybe 5 times. The second is a PIXMA pro 100. That one is also over 10 years old. I like it for making B+W prints as it has 2 different shade of gray inks. They both print up to 13x19inch. The 3rd is an MX something of unknown age as I inherited it when my father in law passed. I use it mainly as a document printer. Other than the ink cost, these have been outstanding printers.

I had a 2720 that worked nicely for 2.5 years. Finally the big tank on the lower right with the windows got grundgy and the blasted thing stopped working. Is it worth fixing ? Sell for parts ? Where ?

I just got an HP smart tank 7001, that comes with 2 years worth of ink in the box. It doesn't dry out as it has an auto off feature if you don't use it often so the heads get capped and prevents the heads from drying out. I print ton's of photos and they look great and it is on sale for under $300.

If there are no major complaints in several reviews, and it seems like what you need, go for it. I prefer ink tank printers because the cost of ink is negligible. I'm still using the original ink in my Epson XP2760, after printing almost 5,000 pages.

Hi Frank,

Happy Easter.

Would you be willing to ship the printer to me if I paid for the shipping?
I live in Richmond VA 23233.

Thank you.

Did you use Epson ink or did you use 3rd party ink in your printer?
