The sign says “Bread Kills Please Feed Ducks Provided Food”. I took these photos at Briscoe Park, a local park in Georgia. It appears the food on the ground is popcorn.

If bread kills what does nice buttery pop corn do?

Thank you for your comment. Your question is on point. From a distance I at first thought the food was cracked corn, which would be fine. The next time I go to this park I want to check to see if there is food in these machines. You are correct, buttered popcorn is not a good idea.

Petco has bags of duck food - I bought a 10lb bag for $10 so my granddaughter could feed the ducks & geese which enabled me to get some close-up shots.

I believe Ducks and or Geese cannot process white bread as food. They eat it. It fills them up, but they get no nutrients from it. If they stay in one place long enough and eat enough bread they can starve. I’m no expert, but I have heard this.

I found this online: Bread, chips, crackers, donuts, cereal, popcorn and similar bread-type products and scraps are never best to feed birds. Feeding ducks bread is bad because the food has little nutritional value and can harm ducklings’ growth, pollute waterways and attract rodents and other pests.

Offer instead: halved grapes, cracked corn, thawed frozen peas, barley, oats, birdseed and duck pellets.

Thanks. I recall lots of people feeding bread to birds. Next time I may say something.
