Stewart's Ice Cream 😢

I used to buy a lot of Stewart's ice cream on sale. The weekly sale price of three flavors was 3.39. Then they began raising the price, and it got to $3.69 in August. I checked yesterday, and all flavors are on sale for $4.13. Usually, when they all go on sale, the price is lower than the weekly sale price. That works out to $.03 per pint, while the supermarket ice cream is $0.82 per pint. No contest. I liked some of their flavors, but ice cream is ice cream.

I appreciate your economic approach to buying ice cream. For many, "ice cream is ice cream". However, as in cars, computers, cameras, and most items, there are huge differences in the quality of similar products. For sure, "ice cream is not ice cream".

I agree with Mark. Not just any old ice cream will do for me.

Are the compared containers each a full half gallon (4 pints) or are they the presently more common size of 1.5 quarts?

Half Gallon = 2 quarts = 4 pints
1.5 Quarts = 3 pints

If four pints per container, did you intend to write $1.03 per pint in lieu of what you wrote as $.03 per pint?

$4.13 per container divided by 4 pints = $1.0325 per pint.
$4.13 per container divided by 3 pints = $1.7666 per pint.

I buy for the flavor and the taste. Some of Stewart's ice creams don't get my attention at all. It's the same with the Hannaford ice cream. I love some of it, but I wouldn't bother with other flavors.

I don't know what the regular price of Stewart's will be, but on sale for $1.03/pint is too much for me. If I were to buy a hundred pints of ice cream, I'd pay Stewart's $103 (on sale), and Hannaford $82, for a savings of $21. That would be 25 containers of Stewart's (four pints) and 33 containers of Hannaford's (three pints). If Hannaford's goes on sale, I'd save even more.

Are there any other reasons to buy ice cream? We have a homemade ice cream shop nearby. It's named "Gabriel's Fountain". I buy their ice cream. It cost $9.00 a pint plus tax. I don't eat ice cream very often (I try to make healthy nutrition choices). Their homemade ice cream is incredible.
Unusual and superlatives are worth the price!

I've never considered making my own ice cream because of the cost. Aside from the machine, there are all the natural ingredients. Chemicals are much less expensive.

This is another wasted annoying post. If you can’t appreciate that there’s a huge difference between different brands and flavors of ice cream, that should be a clue to move on and find something else to do rather than commenting in the first place. 🙄

Yeah, I wondered if this post would be worth making or not. I think what I'm going to do is post it again as a poll: "Should I have posted this post or left it unposted? Post your response in the space below."

I don't think that place is open yet, but they do have a nice assortment of goodies. I've been going there for years.

I feel so sorry for those of you who don't have the experience of savoring Blue Bell ice cream form that little creamery in Brennan, Texas. Millions of Texans agree that it's the best in the world. Now that's not an encouragement for you to move to Texas but if you're down here sometime, stop by any grocery store and pick up some of their Homemade Vanilla. It's to die for.
