Have Nikon 800e, the viewfinder fell off today, I noted it is held in place with ONE screw.
I called Nikon, they don't sell screws for this body.
Does anyone happen to know what screw size this might be or where I might obtain one.
I have not yet gone to jewelry store yet and there are no camera stores close by.
thanks for any constructive help, resist the wisecracks IF possible.
You might as a last resort look on ebay for one that is trashed. You might also ask on Fred Miranda forum. It could be a regular 800 also and not just the e version.
thank you, I do suspect the 800 and 800e are similar ... will check out Fred's sight.

As I understand the only difference is the sensor and firmware. So I believe you would be ok with either for a screw.
If all else fails, a dab of two part epoxy should hold it in place. The epoxy would probably mean that you would never be able to remove the viewfinder but it's a better alternative to leaving an unusable camera setting on a shelf.
Understood, I will first try to get this tiny screw replaced. I was told now that Nikon does have parts for the 800e in stock... amazing! it's a new world now... the consumer is out of luck apparently, like having an antique car and searching for parts... thanks for your suggestion

Will Nikon sell you the screw or are you expected to send to them for repair?
the OFFICIAL NIKON sites told me ... NO, they don't sell the screws OR have any 800e parts in stock, it's too old... welcome to the NEW WORLD ... I called Adorama as well, they don't have parts available. I plan on buying some optical repair screws and hope one of them fits...
If all else is a dead end a gunsmith might be able to help.

There is a gentleman on this forum that repairs cameras and seems to be held in high regard with UHH members. I don't remember his name. Perhaps some member reading this post might remember and lend a helping hand.
thanks am open to any help... will be looking to buy some tiny screws soon and take my chances...
I do know IF I lived close to a large CAMERA store that does in-house repairs, this would be a cakewalk, I think.
I will be calling a few soon since I have done business with one in Seattle recently. Hopefully, we can get a tiny screw, currently, I have it taped in place and it works fine.
Will let you know IF I strike gold... thanks for all the responses...
alphadog, you might want to try optometric stores that sell eyeglasses, they usually have tons of tiny screws.
Yes, I plan to do this. I just sent an email to a large Camera Store in Seattle that does camera repairs and am hoping they will have this minor, but significant item. Thankfully, it is not critical to function thus far, just an inconvenience.
thanks for the response

It's pretty critical, actually. The inside of the camera vents to the atmosphere through a tiny port in the eyepiece (like when zooming a "pumper" zoom. Without that piece in place, the inside of your camera is directly open to the outside world. So it would be a good idea to handle your camera carefully and limit use in dusty environments while looking for that screw.
