How do you like your 15.00 an hour wage now?

For about three years everyone was yelling that the national wage should be 15.00 an hour. It wasn't enough to raise the 7.85 an hour to 10.00, no it needed to go to 15. Now McDonalds pays 15 and WalMart and Sams pay 17 an hour. So now a family of 5 can expect to pay around 60.00 at a fast food restaurant. At a store I went into in SC the half-gallon ice cream (that is no longer a half-gallon) was over 6.00. Last night I saw a sleeve of sodas in our local grocery here in PA is now 9.29. Not long ago you could buy two and get one free, which would be 12.00 for three sleeves. I still say all our politicians both Republicans and Democrats are lying through their teeth. They want us to believe we are experiencing an 8.5% inflation rate but from what I've seen, we are at 20%+. We are getting hit in two directions -- the government raising the interest rate in order to quell inflation (which adds to inflation!), and the 15.00 + an hour wage. Well, a lot of people wanted to see it so I hope they are happy now!

Inflation is 100% in some cases. Here in California we have seen prices on many food products literally double overnight. Gas is still high and headed back up. Our local drive thrus are literally empty or very low volume. How's that fast food workers? No business means no money/jobs for you at all now. There are help wanted posters up everywhere but nobody seems to want to work. Maybe I am going to have to come out of retirement. But that may be a moot point if the banks continue to collapse. You are right... both parties suck. Its a swamp that never got drained.

All the folk that the onerous minimum wage is "helping" are once again the ones to suffer. Unattended retail is the wave of the future and unsk**led jobs are going to disappear just like the value of our money. Entry level jobs are disappearing fast. Skyrocketing wages, skyrocketing theft and violent crime in stores, lack of basic sk**ls in a large portion of the workforce, etc. How is it possible to run a profitable business in this climate? So closing stores and automation will soon have eliminated the entry level jobs that were part of training for the future. I don't guess it matters because I don't think there's much future left.

Bridges,

I have always said the new minimum wage is the next poverty level and we will pay the price. Our expectations on Wall Street to continually outperform is our way of saying pass on those extra expenses among the consumers. Sad to say that most of our better restaurants have not only increased their prices, but at the same time lowered their quality, so my wife and I rarely go out to eat now. We actually found that we can (SHE) prepare better, healthier and more tasteful meals at home. She watched Julia Child early in life and can prepare meals of a similar quality as Julia. I guess I am a lucky man. Meanwhile groceries are also through the roof. Gary

Can hardly get a good cut of steak anymore, that's for sure. You don't dare ask for anything less than prime or you'll be giving your gums a workout. When we got married we could get good ribeye for $4/lb. It was our weekend treat. I'd marinate 'em and cook 'em up in our smoker.

Nothing new... I have lived thru worse... but my retirement is 25 years old and it has not change in numerical value OUCH. Senior retirement deflates. When working my income increases would have padded the inflation hit.

Our government? Yikes !, the only-knows-one-dance Federal Reserve insanely applies what did not work before to today's world with no consideration of consequence, collateral damage of people and continuance of a thriving economy... "And The Band Plays ON." as did the The Titanic Violinist. Will the Fed successfully allow us to relive 1929?

"And the band played on" is an expression used to describe the deliberate masking or downplaying of an impending calamity by authorities.

They asked for it.
Libs gave it to buy v**es.
Now suffer. I have no sympathy.
I laugh and say that this misery is owned by the democrats.
Problem is that the i***ts who v**ed for this lunacy do not see any correlation and will now demand $25 an hour for a living wage and the democrats will give it to them just in time for an e******n.

Looks like a good thing that wages have closed the gap and with inflation decreasing, wage growth will once again be greater than inflation growth.

How do you explain producer prices decreasing?

https://www.bls.gov/news.release/ppi.nr0.htm

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/03/15/ppi-february-2023-.html

Demand is decreasing as intended by the fed rate increases; less demand, lower prices, less inflation = end of fed price increases. Could we see just one more increase of 25 basis points even with banking turmoil?
