Six months ago my son, 15 now, suggested we travel to Guatemala to visit his friend who moved there a year ago. Hmm…maybe was the answer until I found a photo online by Albert Dros. The photo is a panoramic shot of Volcan de Agua and an erupting Volcan de Fuego with the Milky Way stretched overhead between the two and a light-polluted valley below, taken from approximately 12,000 feet up on the side of Volcan de Acatenango.
The answer quickly became Yes, if we can hike the Volcano. My wife and I started exercising and plans were made.
We hiked up 4,000 feet in 4 miles with our 3 boys, 15,13 and 10, carrying over 30 pounds of camera equipment and plenty of warm clothes.
I’d say it was worth it!

Wow! Outstanding. I admire your guts getting that close to an active volcano!
Wow again! Did the kids help with carrying the photo gear? If they each carried ten pounds, you wouldn't have to carry anything!! I'm thinking, incredible photos!!
Picture perfect! Thank heaven you didn’t have a Mt. St. Helens experience, or worse. These absolutely add the “class” to classic! Beautiful, and complete.👍👍👍👍👍
