The Nikon Z9 + FTZ adaptor + 2.0 Converter, coupled to the Nikkor 200-500mm lens is a lot of mass. Not for the weak of heart! But, I thought I would give it a try for the first time today.

The weather was nice (we have had so much rain) but didn't see any flying birds. I did manage to get photos of those critters around the park enjoying the warmer weather.

We are expecting some more unsettled weather. When it passes I will revisit the birds with tripod/gimble and try my luck with the 70-200.

Here are a few samples. All taken handheld.

Handheld? Yikes, that rig would be more than I would want to try, especially for BIF.

Anyway, this is not the first time I have seen a report suggesting that F-mount TCs perform nicely on a Z9. These are impressive shots. Could we get more details, like aperture, ISO, shutter speed, etc.?

Thank you. Sure Clark. I will make a list of data and include as a comment. A number of shots were cropped. The little sparrow was flitting around trying to distract me from a nearby nest. He was very hard to capture out of all the shots.

Thanks Nimbushopper. Probably could have been even sharper with tripod since my old arms are so shakey these days with a blown out shoulder. Speaks well of the IBIS.

Thanks so much! I had incorrectly assumed that you were shooting in manual mode, but in these cases the camera did a splendid job in aperture priority. Please post your BIF shots when avsilable.

Great pictures. I wonder how they would look without the 2X extender. From what I read, one looses significant quality with the 2x as compared with the 1.4, or no extender. Just wonder if you have made such a comparison - not that I will be affording a Z 9 any time. Just have to stick with my D 500. I have contemplated a 1.4x for my 200-500 Nikor.
