Ex Champaign alum Altoist Kim Richmond got his start as a serious arranger there (UofI). After HS I played a gig in the summer of ‘63 with a tenor band at Shafer Lake /Indiana Beach. As a musician, I turned out to be a better geologist, photo interpreter, and Systems Engineer (all of which paid more steadily and fed my family. My wind got too short; my tenor got heavier; and nobody wanted to hear jazz anymore.

So we were both NJ raised, jazz players and fans. Trumpet & valve trombone here. Small groups in HS, college, Army and after discharge. After, just me and records. Now, just listen very frequently.
