Lightroom and C raw pixelation??

I was trying the electronic shutter on my R5 and tried craw because of smaller file size. When I ran them through LR classic, they pixelated when zoomed to 100%. This does not happen with full raw images? I suspect that Adobe can’t handle craw files? Has anyone else encountered this??

Adobe is supposed to handle cRAW files.

I’m not a major pixel peeper but I use cRAW almost exclusively for weddings and real estate photography and have no pixelization problems in LR. Straight raw files hover around 45-50 megabytes each which is ridiculously large and unnecessary in my view. I suppose for a special specific project where extreme enlargement might be needed I would opt for RAW but cRAW works just fine for me, although most of my work is with the mechanical shutter. I’ll have to run a few tests to see if there’s a difference.

When you check your LR version numbers, what does the software report? When you check for updates, what happens?

Lightroom has handled my R5 CRAW files with and without EC no problems for 2 years or so. Even yesterday. What size have you got your preview set in import?

I've never used cRAW but now I'm a bit confused. I searched and found lots of reviews/comparisons of cRAW vs RAW which all concluded there is no discernable loss in image quality with cRAW so no downside. Then I found an article by "Lightroom Queen" explaining why a cRAW image file converted to DNG is bigger (more MB) than a RAW image file converted to DNG. Now I guess there is a possible downside. No where could I find an explanation of precisely what is done to shrink a RAW image to a cRAW image. Guess I don't need to know.

If you're going to waste your time converting fully supported RAW or cRAW to DNGs, you get was you deserve from Adobe.

The Digital Picture: Canon has advised us that the new C-RAW format uses a lossy-compression algorithm, meaning that some of the image information is discarded to save space, while RAW file compression is not lossy (or minimally, we don't know that it is). While none of us welcome our image data being thrown out, what really matters is whether or not we can notice what was discarded.

Yep, I found a half dozen posts and videos just like that and I have to admit I couldn't tell the difference between except a few minor localized contrast spots. Call me a skeptic but I'm curious to know what those algorithms discard. I can't recall ever using DNG so I don't think I will worry.

I sincerely thank each member who responded and there were good ideas put forth. I am currently updated under the subscription plan and because this seems to be unique to me, I’ll have to further check my settings.
