Vivitar was half the price and lasted only half as long. Watson came additional with camera, quick death. The Nikon batteries have all met or exceeded standard. Bonus, my 7100 is my backup and D850 primary...they use the same batteries.

My Nikon D4s purchased from B&H when they first hit the market came with the Nikon battery plus a Watson battery that B&H included. I don't use the D4s much any more, but the batteries still work fine in the grip on the D850.

Luck of the Irish?

I have 4 Nikon batteries for my D7100 and 4 aftermarket. I recently charged all of these batteries and was disappointed to find the aftermarket batteries not only didn't charge to 100% but also discharged rapidly in the camera. Have any of you had a similar experience?

Any input will be appreciated.

I never purchase aftermarket batteries. Nikon OEM from B&H only. Purchased one aftermarket that swelled after 1 year. Never a problem with the OEMs in 18 years.

I have a ProMaster battery that came with a D300 I traded for several years ago. It is serviceable, meaning that it will power the camera just fine. But it does not communicate properly with the camera...it never swowws as 100% charged, and more importantly to me, it never resets the shot counter on the battery status display.

There was also a recent discussion here of a third party battery which was apparently reverse-engineered to the original version of the EN- EL15 battery, which will not work in the D500. So that battery also would not work in a D500, even though it was more recent.

So yes, there are real, meaningful risks with non-OEM batteries.

The trick in finding good after market battery is to find out how many mAh of power the battery has, the info is on the label. the OEM Sony batteries I use has 2600 mAh of power where the after market batteries I have has 1500 to 2000 mAh power. The more mAH the more shots you get per charge.

I hope this will help my fellow Photography people.

I don't know the brand but I received an aftermarket battery along with the OEM when I bought my D7100 from B&H back in 2013. It has kept up with the OEM and I am still using it. That's 10 years. I wouldn't even expect a OEM to last that long. What ever B&H is supplying is good enough for me. But OEM is good too!
