I am seriously considering replacing my aging iMac with a new M1. That means I will have to purchase a separate monitor. Because I am used to my 27”, I will want another in comparable size.

Does anyone have suggestions for a good quality monitor suitable for photo editing? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Yes, 27" seems to be the perfect size. We have a couple of 27" Dells here, but not pricey ones - $300 or less. Before you spend your money, look for reviews and comparisons.

"Perfect" is relative....

I'm using a 23" and a 24".
Works for me.

Please Jay. You are an Apple owner. You remember that commercial for Polaner's all fruit? "would you please pass the jelly?". The word monitor is for low lifes. The word now is DISPLAY. I bought a Studio Max computer last year and also the Apple/LG mon......er a DISPLAY. It's very pricey. But I have seen some VERY nice LG DISPLAYS at the Apple store. I would check out the LG line.

John, I bought an Asus V27D from B&H to use with my MacBook Pro and the color is great I can't say if it compares to the Retina 5K but It didn't cost $3k, I just looked at the Apple studio displays @$1.5k, it is cheaper than my old 27" Thunderbolt was years ago.
How old is your iMac

Wow! I'm feeling a little inadequate with my little bitty 15 inch laptop mon...er...Display. When we get into a house and retire the RV, maybe I can start looking at one of those GIGANTIC mon...er...Displays!

You basically have two choices. Go the cheap route espoused by Jerry and get any old one which seems good. The second route would to buy a good one like the new Mac Studio monitor, or something with similar or better abilities. You get what you pay for. Best of luck.

If you care about color fidelity in printing, you should get a monitor that can be hardware-calibrated. BenQ has good options. If you don't care about color quality of your output, get an inexpensive monitor.

I'll still continue to monitor what I'm doing.....

(Or maybe "monitor" is derogatory now....)

I use a Dell U2718Q which has been replaced by U2723QE currently selling for $585.00. It’s not “top of the line” but still makes me happy. I also have a E2020H that I extend as a second screen for my layers…history…histogram…etc panels…I like using the full real estate of the 27 for photos.
