Inspiration and TSA

Recently I judged a photography competition for high school students as part of their state TSA (Technical Student Association) competition. While there were two or three entries that were lackluster the rest were generally well conceived and executed. There were also about a dozen students who produced really remarkable photographs (for the preliminary round each student submitted five photos). Of this dozen there were a number of photographs that were truly excellent, any of which I would have been proud to have taken.

I am posting this for two reasons: the first, to say this experience motivated me to get out and take more photos and to be more attentive to the details, the second is to encourage you to volunteer for TSA...there are about 70 different types of competitions and I am sure your state association would appreciate the help.

Niklon, I doubt that there is a child, especially a young teenager, that is not familiar with using the camera on their smartphone today. I believe the goal would be to get them to view things in ways that they have not seen before, and more importantly, to enjoy doing it.

You are undoubtedly correct but almost all the photos entered were from DSLRs and many of them showed an excellent grasp of f-stop, ISO, speed, etc. The best of the best were truly remarkable.

Great program ! But I was originally intrigued by the title, expecting that it somehow conflated INSPIRATION with *THE* TSA.

I too thought that some supposed outrage at the airport turned out to have inspirational value.

But the actual name of the organization is "Technology Student Association."

Thanks for this post. I have never heard of Technical Student Association before. I googled the Texas chapter and discovered that the Photographic competitions for 2023 have the needed judges. In 2023, the judging will be done Virtually.

Good group. But they ought to change their name. TSA has no positive connotation for anyone.
