Question about cloning drives.

I tried to clone a 256GB SSD to a new 1TB SSD. First I tried Samsung software as the new drive is Samsung. But since both the drive I want to clone and the new drive are connected to the computer via USB the Samsung software doesn't work. It requires that the source drive being the drive that is running the computer.
Then I tried Macrium Reflect and it works but the partition doesn't expand to fill the new drive. I found the problem that the source drive has the main partition bitlockered. I can't remove the bitlocker because I don't know the password or recovery key.
Anyone has any idea? Jerry by any chance?

Has anyone tried this with Acronis?

Hopefully someone who knows better will chime in, but when I last cloned a drive, the drive to be cloned had to be connected direct to the motherboard.

In my case, and yours may be different, I was cloning the boot drive, which may affect the requirements.

In my situation, I had a 500GB boot drive to be cloned to a 2TB drive. Both were Samsung so I used their method, software and USB connector for the external recipient of the cloning; that drive then physically replaced the C: drive and I used the old C: as the new internal D: drive.

It was surprisingly easy and trouble free.

Yes, that is a nuisance. I usually make several attempts and then turn to UHH.

The last time I did it, I used AOMEI Backupper, and it worked fine. I don't recall how I got one large partition, but maybe AOMEI did that automatically. I think your first step would be to clone the drive. If there are separate partitions, you can deal with that later.

It’s not likely the locked partition, but rather the way Macrium is configured. Once you’ve finished the first screen where you choose the source and target drive, the second screen where you choose the various parameters is critical. it’s VERY easy to make a mistake and create the issue you have (ask me how I know). It was so frustrating after several tries that I finally turned to UTube tutorials and found a specific tutorial that pointed out my very subtle error. JerryC41 had the same issue, and I sent him the link to the UTube that addressed the issue.unfortunately, I can’t find it at the moment (and there are a dozen UTube videos on the subject), but hopefully Jerry can locate it or remember the setting. Jerry?

Edit: this video also addresses the issue, though not as well. Pay attention to the section beginning about 1:30 in: https://youtu.be/lSdSNAjmdDg

Use Macrium (as you did) to clone your drive to the new larger one. Then (Try Using) Partition Master to expand the partition to the rest of the larger disk. I DO have a complete licensed copy of Partition Master Pro (they do offer a free version) - this process worked fine when upgrading my daughters Razer from 500 GB to 1 TB. I don't know if having a bitlockered partition may put the kybosh on the deal though.

I can change the size of the other partitions (there are 4 partitions on the drive) but not the one that is bitlockered with Macrium. The option grayed out.

Don’t select the partition that is locked to be cloned (on the 1st screen) and then opt for the new cloned drive to use ALL the drive space on the drive (second screen)
