I am in the process of converting from Windows to Mac. On my windows machine I use Vice Versa software to back up my files, but the creators of Vice Versa do not make a version that is compatible with Apple IOS. I would like advise on what software to use for the purpose of backing up my files in addition to Time Machine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
If all else fails on here. Apple support is 800 My Apple
GoodSync has a free version that you can use to get a feel for how it works. It limits you to 3 jobs and 100 files for the free one. Goodsync uses your own drives with optional cloud space available.
There is also iDrive which defaults to cloud backup but will do a local if you want one.
I have been using Carbon Copy Cloner for almost 11 years. It has been very reliable, it is easy to use and is reasonably priced. (I also use Time Machine as a secondary backup.). I think you will enjoy your foray into the Mac universe!
Apple’s operating system includes a backup program called Time Machine. Check it out before you buy something.

Time Machine is included with the Mac OS. No need for any other.
The workflow for a backup scheme should have 3 parts to it.
1. In my case it is an external hard drive using the built-in system on macOS, Time Machine. This is a true backup because it keeps all of your info including systems, applications and data. It is constantly doing incremental snapshots which are kept in a first-in-first-out method, deleting the oldest version as needed. If I deleted a file yesterday I can go back in time and retrieve it. Also, a time machine makes moving to a new computer easy.
2. I have a cloned external hard drive using Carbon Copy Cloner. It is a scheduled clone of my drives of the current state of my drive. Current meaning if I deleted a file yesterday today's clone will not be there. It also can be a boot drive if your primary drive crashes.
3. An offsite archive. There are lots of cloud services but depending on your volume of data (you don't need to back up applications) they can be very expensive. I use BackBlaze and have for years. It cost $9/month for unlimited backups of your system and data. The application runs on your mac in the background and has never affected my performance. One thing to consider is your isp rules for monthly data usage and caps. Mine has a cap of 1.5 TB which we get close to every month.
For a local backup, I have been using SuperDuper for years and am happy with it. I use Backblaze for cloud backup. This in addition to Apple Time Machine. These backups provide me with a desired redundancy.

For local backup this is the excellent, free choice. For cloud backup iCloud is worth evaluating.
iDrive is an additional product. One account can back up multiple devices. I backup my MacBook, wife's iMac and my Windows PC.

Time Machine!!! I have been using it for years
But I have nothing on my Mac hdd but the OS and apps.
Everything else is on 3 separate HDDs
I vote Time Machine
I also vote FreeFileSync (both free and donation versions) - I use for monthly extra backup of photos
