Those steam locomotives were quite a piece of engineering. Unfortunately they were high maintenance and tended to wallow side to side with each power stroke, playing havoc with the rails. Diesels may be more fuel efficient with less maintenance, but a diesel can’t compare when it comes to being romantic.

Thanks for your visit and commentary. This engine is amazing. A diesel in this situation would not be as 'elegant'or "romantic" but understand the efficiency issue. Thanks again.

Steam locomotives are not elegant or romantic. They are huffin-puffin, steamin', snortin', rompin', stompin, weazing, wooshing, rock and rollin', earth-shaking, monsters, that are a joy to watch and fun to chase to get pictures like yours.
