Hey Hoggers, I just started experimenting with live view on my 7200 hand held.I take a shot using the view finder then the same shot in live view. The live view colors look much more vibrant. Why is that? Thanks for any help.

Interesting.

Can you post the two shots, the one using the viewfinder plus the one using the live view? We can then see the 'difference' you refer to.

And in this case I hope that you leave the EXIF data intact.

Mechanical and electronic shutters maybe having different readouts ? Just guessing.

In live view the camera uses different exposure meter than in viewfinder mode. The sensor to measure light when in viewfinder mode is located in the viewfinder but the meter when in live view is the imaging sensor itself. So there may be some different readings.

Seems we need to know what OP means by "same shot". If hes using AE then you have pointed to a possible variable. But OTOH if "same shot" means exact same aperture, speed, et al etc etc, then thaz more mysterious.

The view finder view is basically what you're seeing. Effectively the live view is something of a JPEG rendition, which essentially means at least a level of basic processing/enhancement is being applied. You'd probably see the same difference in a download -- the raw file will look less vibrant (closer to the view finder view) while a JPEG will likely be closer to the live view.

The view through the viewfinder is irrelevant. Theres no image file that represents the SLR finder. Its the view that doesnt get recorded. Its tint and contrast arise from the plastic view screen, the mirror alloy, and the prism.

We have two actual image files being compared here and theres a difference between them.

I wish he would, but I can believe him that there is some visible difference.

Can never understand why some people ask for help and then never have the courtesy to respond. Even if it's just to say they made an error.
