Are there any photographers on here that upgraded from a Canon 5D4 to the canon mirrorless R5 or R6markii. I have been researching the R5 and R6ii and have the desire to upgrade to one of them. I like the flip out rear LCD, better autofocus and better low light capability and on the R5 the additional megapixels (better for cropping post processing). On the R6ii whats holding me back is the 24 megapixels vs the 30 megapixels I currently have on the 5D4. I was just wondering if the IQ of the mirrorless is any better and if you would do it again or in hindsight stay with the 5D4.

I used a 5D series for about 5 years and was allowed to borrow an R5 on an eagle excursion. I never looked back; the eye focus is extraordinary and the 45 mega pixels allows better cropping. The R6II is primarily for video bloggers and I don't shoot video.

If the only thing holding you back is the pixel count, then you better stick with the 5D. The R5 is much more than pixel count. I own and use both cameras for differing purposes. I think you need to do more research and refine the reason for a possible upgrade. But it is your money. IMO good luck

And if megapixels are what matters, then save yourself some money and purchase a renovated 5Dsr with its 50.6 mp sensor. It has problems in low light, but that can mostly be overcome in post. I have the R5C also, and there are times when my go to is still the 5Dsr.

I have been shooting an R5 for a couple of years now. It replaced a 5DIV, I have no regrets only praise for the mirrorless system and the advantages it offers over a DSLR.

I first replaced my R with a R6 and then my 5DM4 with a R5. For what I shoot they are a great solution and both are a significant upgrade from the 5D. Frame rate and buffer size, subject / eye detect, plus being able to review images in bright sunshine through the viewfinder are key reasons. Add the lighter and arguably better R lenses are another benefit.
This weekend I carried both with a 100-500 on the R5 and 24-70 on the R6 covering Clash Endurance pro and amateur triathlon events with a City sponsored ribbon cutting and bike ride thrown in. Right tools for the right job. You are really the only one who can decide if either or both are the right tools for you.

I am primarily a landscape shooter, wildlife occasionally. I replaced my 5Div with an R5. R5 is superior in image quality, cropping ability, and general ease of use (features such as the EVF, which presents what the sensor sees, focus peaking, and occasionally the articulating screen are important in my shooting). Battery life is less than with a DSLR, but that's the only slight negative of my equipment change--I do not find it limiting. I loved my 5Div, but have zero regrets about having replaced it with the R5.

Upgraded from the 5D4 to the R5. Was quite happy with the 5D4, am very happy with the R5.

I went from 5DIV to the R5 and love it. Then took my 7D, sold it and have the R6 back up. 6 is great but the 5 is better.

That would help with your quick battery drain problem. Not to mention having more comfortable controls in the vertical position.

My route as well, except that I replaced my 5Diii with the R6 (original). It's a great camera in its own right, but it's not an R5!

I switched from the 5DIV to the R5 and I never looked back.
I considered the EOS R6II also, but I chose the R5 when the R6II may have filled the bill just as well.
New Since EOS R6: https://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/r6-ii.htm#new

Here are a couple of sites you should also consult.

If you really like to crop on occasion or crop really deep there are software "crutches" you may use.
I personally use Topaz Photo AI (Enhance Resolution) or Topaz Gigapixel AI.
I know both through first-hand experience, and they work well.
I'm sure that PS, LR, and others offer similar capabilities.
Best Wishes,

I can't really say the 5Div is anything but an excellent system, and if money were a big problem I would not have made the change to R5.
That being said, I bought my R5 around 18 months ago. It is clearly an improvement ion several ways, but IQ of photos is not amongst them. The R5 faster to use, robust and more versatile. The excellent IBIS means I rarely have to carry a tripod, and the excellence of the EF to RF adapters means I can use any of my older lenses that I choose.
In fact, I use several of my most-used lenses from the RF series, and the lesser used lenses I saved from the EF series.
The change is clearly worthwhile if you can comfortably handle the high cost.
