An Observation - Noisey Shutter on my Nikons
My D750 was sent into Nikon repair for shutter noise. It looked brand new when returned but the shutter noise was not addressed as it fell within their standard limit. My D850 is the same as the D750...lots of shutter noise. It is so loud the birds are hearing it and flying away. I am reluctant to send it in for repair based on the D750 experience. My D810 is QUIET as a church mouse. Has anyone else experience loud shutter noise with the D750 or D850? Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

The shutter on my D810 is very smooth and quiet. My D850 is not quiet, but I do not consider it excessively noisy. My assumption is that the difference is tied to the higher speed available and other performance capabilities of the D850 shutter. One of the reasons I have hung on to my D810 is for those situations where noise might be a problem, like shooting in church, but I think mostly that a lot of people have just gotten a lot more sensitive about what they perceive as excessive shutter noise.

I am thinking that the D850 went to a titanium shutter and it "rings like a bell".

I always thought my Nikons were not too invasive, noisewise. Then I got the mirrorless thing going. I started selling my DSLR's and the final one to go was my D5 (sniff, I loved that camera!). It had sat for a couple of months while I was learning the Z9, so when I had a buyer I took it out to check that everything was working properly. I stepped out on the porch and shot a burst like I would have shooting birds or surfing. HOLY COW! It actually made me jump, lol. So, yah, I don't remember how my D800 was, but that D5 clanked a bunch...maybe it's normal? Neat thing about the mirrorless line is silent, shutterless, shooting...of course, my Z9 has no shutter so they manufactured a clicky-sound if you want to hear something, and it is *very* quiet on its own.

Not sure if my 750 is loud. Certainly not noisy to any degree that would lead me to send it off for repairs or even just for diagnostic. As with most SLRs it suffers from rather severe cognitive disonance, which may well be what youre hearing.

An electronic shutter is hard to beat if you want a silent shutter. It works beautifully with static subjects.

My D850 was the loudest camera I ever owned, but the images were great, and I did not shoot wildlife up close with it so it did not effect my final image.

Why not with moving subjects?
Z9 has no mechanical shutter so you are saying that it cannot shoot moving subjects?

It's not really the shutter, it's the mirror.

Imagine a silent world of mirrorless swans. The slap of a mirror will shortly be treated like lighting a cigarette indoors. You and your obnoxious DSLRinosaur will be asked to leave.

Already happened to me back in 2011 at Montserrat Monastery when my D750 was shushed by a lady using her cell phone because my shutter/mirror was making too much noise. I was indignant but I confess that is what drove me ultimately to buy my M43 G9. So now only the G9 goes traveling but I still have the D750 and enjoy using it occasionally.

Not with any Nikon but I remember how noisy my old Pentax 35mm shutters were. They actually did scare birds away.

The Z9 is not better than a mechanical shutter, but it shows the least distortion among electronic shutters. Its almost as good as the best of mechanical shutters.

Its readout is faster or as fast as most all pro mechanical shutters.
Ps, news flash mechanical shutters have rolling shutter issues.
I believe only the global shutter doesn't.

News Flash ? Ok. If you call it news then its news, but is such very old news really still considered to be flashworthy news ?
