Hero or Insta360

I am considering to buy one as a second camera for travelling; I am still using a D610 and don't want to carry too many lens.
Does anyone have experience with them, which brand or model do you recommend? Can you post some of your best shots.
Can they be used as a regular camera with good zoom and wide-angle range?
Will the resulting pictures be acceptable on a 40" monitor?

I have used both as action cameras primarily for video. I have also extracted some good stills from the videos. But I would not recommend them for general photography. Both are going to give you a very distorted view with the wide angle lens, especially the 360. The 360 has good software that will correct for distortion in post, but I would choose my phone over either one for traveling super light.

I have the Insta 360 oneX3. This is my third 360 camera. I have taken it to Africa, Cuba, Italy & Iceland, but I always take my Sony cameras & lenses.

A great little camera is the Sony DSC RX100 Mark VII. I also take this with me where ever I travel. I have 3 full frame Sonys, usually only take one and then this one. It is a bit costly but it is an awesome camera.

Key Features
20.1MP 1" Exmor RS BSI CMOS Sensor
BIONZ X Image Processor & Front-End LSI
ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* f/2.8-4.5 Lens
24-200mm (35mm Equivalent)
Up to 20-fps Blackout-Free Shooting
UHD 4K30p Video with HLG & S-Log3 Gammas
0.39" 2.36m-Dot OLED Pop-Up EVF
3.0" 921.6k-Dot 180° Tilting Touchscreen
Fast Hybrid AF, 357 Phase-Detect Points
Real-Time Tracking and Eye-AF

These were taken with the 360. I can take one image and then process it about 5 different ways.

I have both, but unfortunately, I don't use them enough. As always, I recommend looking for comparisons on YouTube. I think you will find a preference for the Insta360.

Many users say that the Hero stops working at random times - all versions of the Hero, new and old. The Hero also gets hot, and that can cause it to stop after a short time. However, I have run Heros for 90 minutes straight several times. They got hot, but they kept running. At higher resolutions, they get hot faster and then stop. GoPro says that the average length of a GoPro clip is 1.5 minutes, so I guess they think heating isn't a concern. The one big advantage of the Hero is that it's practically indestructible.

I've always liked my little GoPro Hero 8 (admittedly long outdated!); like Jerry, I don't hardly use it or my other gear these days, though not by choice. I wanted to post this mainly to say that the majority of material I've read about shooting video with these cameras has usually recommended shooting a series of short-duration clips rather than one long clip which would be much more likely to make the processor run hot. You can always stitch them together into a long video in post.

Thank you for showing us some creative shots.
I believe yours is the Insta369 One(1"sensor), Besides pictures/videos from fisheye to wide-angle. can it take a decent shot of landscape or city lights, and does it have any zooming capability?

You believe wrong. Why would you think you know more about my camera than I do?
I had the Insta 360oneX2 and upgraded to the Insta onX3.
I explained that with this camera I can take one image and process it about 5 different ways.

I have also done videos with this camera. Here is a link to a video I did with my first 360 camera.

Here are a few images I took this week with my 360 one3. It was 1 image but processed 3 different ways.
