Jordan dam, NC.

One could reverse the sequence and make it a success story. But that is not what happened. :-)

Nikon D500, 300 mm f/4 + TC 1.4iii.

I'll bet the GBH had difficulty flying for a while.

Actually, it dropped it back in the river. 🙂

Not quite, Eliot, because the GBH failed to tackle it's prey.

Great sequence, Ronnie! I knew he wouldn't swallow that fish when I saw the first shot. But I have seen and posted some similar with a little smaller, but still big fish! I especially like #2 with their eyes right next to each other! That's a cool photo!

Nice sequence. I have seen a Great Blue swallow an even larger fish.

Thank you, Chief, for your feedback. The juxtaposition of the eye of the predator and the prey was not 'planned' by this photographer. But if 10 FPS occasionally leads to the happy co-location of eyes, I will take it.

Thank you, Ken. I know that pythons can swallow outsize prey. But nature has more wonders to wow those of us who choose to look.

I saw a YouTube video where one swallowed a rabbit. Funny thing, when they swallow furry animals such as a rabbit or a vole, they go to a puddle or other water feature and dip it in the water before attempting to swallow.
