Canon has listened to requests from users and lens companies, and approves Cosina for third-party RF lenses; Canon says R3 is its new "Flagship Camera", not the EOS 1DX Mk III, while waiting for the R1 in 2024. Any comments ?

First Canon approved third-party RF lens is Cosina Voigtlander 50mm f1 lens

Cheers and best to all you Canon users.

It looks like a manual focus Cosina Voigtlander 50mm f1 lens for RF mount.

https://www.canonrumors.com/cosina-will-announce-a-nokton-50mm-f1-aspherical-for-the-rf-mount/

Seems Cosina is also going to make this lens for Nikon Z-mount
https://petapixel.com/2023/01/17/cosina-adds-voigtlander-50mm-f-1-and-15mm-f-4-5-to-nikon-z-mount-line/

Seems both the Canon RF and Nikon Z-mount versions will feature some connections for electronic communication for the transmission of EXIF data and support for focus peaking.

No prices announced, but previous versions of this lens for Leica and Nikon DSLRs were listed for $1795 USD

Cheers

A manual focus lens which Canon doesn't want to make. So there is no direct competition to any Canon lenses.

That seems very likely the case. No less expensive autofocus third-party RF lenses allowed yet to compete with Canon's own RF lens lineup. Maybe in the future. We shall see.

Cheers and best to you.

Canon moving the * asterisk next to their 2021 mirrorless wonder as "best" vs their 2020 DSLRinosaur, where's the controversy in that change?

Cosina is a good choice. Hopefully, others will follow.

CHG-CANON, I agree with Canon here. But you know there is this "Norway" guy here in UHH that continues to tout his Canon 1DX MkIII as Canon's "flagship", when we all knew it was the R3, waiting for the R1 in 2024.

This was just the first time that Canon publicly said it was the R3.

Cheers and best to you.

Would you be willing to pay $1795 USD or more for a manual focus RF 50mm f1 lens?

None of Cosina's lenses are cheap in price . Yes hopefully Canon will relent and allow more affordable third-party RF lenses. Those are the ones that folks really have been hoping for. Probably their first choice is not a $1795 USD 50mm f1 manual focus lens.

Cheers and best to you.

I wonder how much Cosina paid for that ‘privilege’.

Wishthey would have made the “R” lenses with the same mount as the eos “D” series camerasI havea lot invested in lenses that fit my 5D and other bodies I wouldconsider a R5 if I could use my existing lenses

Can’t you??

I thought Canon’s converter allowed use of any EOS-EF lens on any EOS-RF mount camera with all functions preserved.

Canon has made an EF to RF adapter, multiple versions, in fact. There is no reason to hesitate migrating these EF lenses to the R-mirrorless bodies.
