Sad, cheap labor leading to cheap justice (or lack there of; and misdirected).
I'm torn on the issue of teenagers working for I personally worked at something somewhere from the age of 15 on. I worked after school and through the summers. I believe that it helped instill the importance of me being accountable for myself. Now, working as a bag boy at the grocery store, as a car hop at Stake-N-Shake, as a dishwasher at the local dinner, as an attendant at the filling station up the street, and lastly as grounds maintenance and lifeguard at the park was not as critical to health and safety as housekeeping maintenance at a meat-packing plant.
Not making youngsters accountable for themselves in various ways is what has led to a generation of entitlement attitudes.

Every older generation will find ways to disparage the younger generation. That will always be the case. I do know and can agree with some of what you are saying, but at the same time I teach and work with young people (in college). In many ways they are far better people than we were, growing up. There is far, far less r****m, misogyny, and xenophobia especially.
I guess I’m guilty of child abuse. I’ve supervised my 8 year old grandson in the wood shop, showing him how to build a house for his Legomen. I’ve also had him and his 3 year old brother help me run the sawmill, moving boards, cutting firewood, haul hay and so on. All with proper safety equipment such as eye and hearing protection.
What’s funny is that one time we were loading firewood and my lower back hurt. When I’d bend over, I’d unconsciously grunt or groan. I realized that when the 3 year old started grunting every time he picked up a piece of wood. Grandkids!
I started as a paper delivery boy at 12 or 13. It was a good learning experience.
These kids weren't delivering newspapers.
"...employed minors as young as 13 to use caustic chemicals to clean “razor-sharp saws,” head splitters and other dangerous equipment at meatpacking facilities in eight states, mostly in the Midwest and the South, in some cases for years. "
"...children suffered injuries, including a chemical burn to the face, while sanitizing k**l floors and other areas of slaughterhouses in the middle of the night."
"Court records allege that a 13-year-old who cleaned a JBS Beef plant in Grand Island, Neb., from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. during the school year suffered chemical burns. A 14-year-old worker, who also suffered burns on the night shift, fell asleep in classes or missed school completely, according to court documents."

Personally, go to a packing plant and then tell us you want your grandchildren to go to work there.
My dad had a hardware store and I went to work for him when I was eight. I would put nuts on stove bolts. The smaller ones had a hundred in each box and there were lots and lot of boxes. He taught me good work ethics. I worked for him all the way through college, didn't get paid in money but a whole lot of other things more important.

Do you want your grandchildren doing that instead of homework and sleeping for school he next day?

I don't understand your comment to Jerry.
Jerry is not agreeing with the use of underage workers , He is showing people are doing it.
Corporate crimes are routinely punished with fines and, quite often, non-disclosure agreements are signed. I know it’s hard to prosecute these cases, but an attempt might provide some deterrence.
