Does anyone else use BBF this way?

Long story short, I love BBF and use it except when I’m using continuous autofocus in burst mode. In that situation, it seems to me that I’ll already be pressing the shutter button, wanting to maintain auto focus throughout the burst, and see no advantage in having to hold down a second button to focus. I turn BBF off in that situation. Am I the only one?

Thanks,

Ben

Which way? My way or BBF all the time? Because my way certainly does allow you to maintain focus as well as BBF. For me, the advantage of BBF is maintaining focus after recomposing in single shot mode without the shutter button changing it.

Focus and shutter separate.

I see the advantage of that in certain situations. Probably most situations. Just curious, why is it advantageous to do that in continuous focus burst mode?

Not sure what you're asking...
But I believe I can keep my thumb on the BBF when using "servo mode" and fire the shutter at will.
I've not tried it yet.

I use BBF (using the AF-On button) with the Shutter Button disconnected from activating AF 100% of the time in any shooting scenario.

Whilst I can understand that you consider 'there is no advantage to having to hold down a second button when you are doing a burst in continuous AF', it means that you are having to change 'operational methods', possibly often.

For my slow brain the less method changes I have to make, the less chances of having something not set how I want it and missing a shot.

I use BBF (using the AF-On button) with the Shutte... (show quote)

That I understand! Thank you.

never turn BBF off. If it's a burst, I just hold it down.

as far as I'm concerned you are the only one. If you are shooting bursts and the subject moves? What then?

I use BBF and I don’t switch modes for burst shooting.

But that’s what I do and what works best for you might be different.

I have two Sony camera's, one has BBF (back button focus, you see, I explain BBF, unlike you, for those that do not know, it is always a courtesy few employ here, I digress) and on the other I use the regular shutter button, I see no advantage to either, I get award winning shots with both camera's.
If you know what your doing, I see no advantage with BBF.
The image below was taken with a traditional shutter button.

Then the autofocus tracks the moving subject because it’s tied to the depressed shutter button. I find it awkward to hold down two buttons at once. The result is exactly the same.

There you go. Thanks, Bill. Stunning shot, by the way!
