Walked to and from Central Park this afternoon

Temps in the low 50's. Photos in descending order, with some stories:
Horse carriage driver, a popular tourist attraction.
Marek and Casimir (for Pulaski, the Polish general who helped the US win the Revolutionary War).
Marek is Polish and Casimir is Ukrainian. He was rescued from an abandoned Ukrainian dog shelter early last year. He and about 250 other dogs were left without food and water for 24 days until they could be rescued. His kennel was partially uncovered, so he was able to get to water. About 240 dogs died.
The ear tag shows that he was caught on the street, neutered and then to be released back to the streets, but Putin interfered.
Marek obtained him (how?) and came to the States with some (unknown to me) international animal rescue group. They are in New York City to try to get rid of the Central Park horse carriage business, which is an ongoing, semi-newsworthy event here in NYC.
The bright red jacket in the next shot caught my eye, standing out against the colorless background.
Next is the drab pond at the southeast corner of the park, with a hen Mallard making concentric waves.
The ice-skating rink is practically empty.
Finally, on my walk home, we have a woman cautiously eyeing my camera (from across the intersection!) and an amateur inspector.

OK, so here we go again! They are trying to shut down the horse carriage business in the city! WHY?? The horses are well cared for. They have rubber shoes for the asphalt instead of steel. They are a big tourist draw. They have a net that catches the droppings to keep them off the street. What's the down side? Are they going to shut down the mounted police too?
How about shutting down 50% of the vehicle traffic instead? How about replacing ALL the horses with UNICORNS? How about replacing ALL the people with zombies? That would eliminate the difficulties with identifying who is safe and who is not!
I could go on!!!
Nice photos BTW! If you like street photography!
