Driving in Arizona deserts in the spring can be dangerous to your arrival to your destination! The roadsides are full of spring flowers - mostly lupine and poppies. All of the images below were shot within a couple of miles of my house along the newly opened SR 24. These flowers started blooming in late January, and after the recent rains are simply wild! Took about 100 images within 1/2 hour! I almost OD'd on colour.

It's a real WOW! The speed limit there is 45, but everyone drives 60 or more. It's fun to see people actually slow down to look at the flowers!

Well, we call them lupine. They look like the bluebonnets I've seen in Texas, but I don't know if they're exactly the same thing.

There are a few different species from what I know but the Texas bluebonnet seems to be more adapted and unique to Texas and this part of the country. We are cover with them in early March to April, as you know if you have been here they are everywhere. I can't wait. I have many photos and have thought about posting here on UHH.
Thank you for the nice post, I love the early flowers, they bring life to spring.
Bruce.

I do not think they are the same thing. Lupines grow at higher altitudes than Bluebonnets

Thanks for the info, Bruce. I spent some time shooting bluebonnets down near Round Rock. In my pictures I honestly can't tell the difference.

Thanks, Frank. Since we're having an extended winter this year, they'll probably be around for awhile.

Thanks. I changed my settings on that one. I think maybe it turned out better.
