NIKON Super Coolscanner 9000 ED: for sale $2500.
Gently Used-*near mint
This Nikon Super Coolscan 9000ED was my brothers’ scanner. I doubt more than 24 scans completed. He was an avid amateur that liked hi-end photography stuff like Alpa cameras. I inherited this 5 years ago but have never used it.

Its 20 lbs and a highly valued instrument !
That is a great scanner as I have had one for years and it's siting right beside me now. I use it for 220 mm slide film and while I haven't used in a while I still have thousands and thousands of slides I need to scan. It's a great scanner and whoever ends up with it will enjoy the quality that it renders. By the way this unit has been discontinued.

Worth noting that the interface is firewire, which is not easy to adapt to today's protocols. I have the 4000 and have kept an old laptop with firewire in order to use it.
Ebay has firewaire to USB adapters for $5-$7

Here is a better solution to connect the Nikon 9000 ED scanner, see attached photo;
a Firewire card inside the computer !

Yes, this would work well for a desktop computer. Then the issue would be scanner software. Check VueScan, because probably the original scanner s/w will not run on Win 10-11

I know nothing about Macs, but it looks like it is easy to adapt Thunderbolt to Firewire. Not sure about whether the s/w will still work. VueScan has a version for MacOS
What do you mean with the "s/w" that you refer to ? What is s/w?

s/w = software. From what I've researched, the last software released by Nikon for this scanner will not work on current computers, Windows 10, 11 or Mac. Vuescan costs a hundred bucks and will have the drivers for this scanner, so all is not lost. I leave the Firewire issue to the experts, but no computers are now sold with this input. An adaptor may or may not work. I've read both outcomes. The ideal would be to put a firewire card into a desktop computer, something easily done on a desktop but impossible on a laptop.
This is one of the all-time great scanners, having real world specs that match or better current offerings. No flatbed scanner, even expensive ones, can match this thing. I just question the asking price when you consider the potential issues to be dealt with that are mentioned above and by others.
What price do you think is appropriate ? On Ebay I have seen a range of $6k to $2k.

An item is worth what someone will pay for it. I can't predict that. The listings for this scanner on eBay indeed cover the range you mention. I checked the dates of four of the listings, Nov 19 and Dec 23, 2022. Feb 8 and March 3, 2023. Having bought and sold on eBay, I can tell you that items like this can sit there for some time, but then out of the blue, someone will bite. This scanner is probably worth the asking price to someone, but getting it may require patience.
