Cool, what adaptor is that ? Is that the Nikon FTZ adaptor ?

The three new Sigmas in Z-mount are all f1.4 APS-C lenses. These three lenses have already been released in other mounts ( I actually owned the Sigma 16mm f1.4 in E-mount and loved it on my Sony A6500), and all three have tested to be superior in sharpness and performance, so IMHO this is a win-win-win for Z-mount users.

Cheers and best to you.

As long as we are sharing. The camera is a Z9 with a Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 using a Megadap 211 adapter. Picture taken with a D850 with Tamron 85mm f/1.8 f-mount. Talk about a HDR image! Yes the Z9 with 200-600mm have been working just fine together, mainly for birding, but also a little bit of grade school soccer games. I got tired of waiting for Nikon's version.

Yes these three new Sigma Z-mount lenses are APS-C or DX lens.

There are Tamron fullframe Z-mount lenses right now with more coming, some badged as Tamron Z-mount fullframe, some Nikon-badged Z-mount fullframe lenses of Tamron design.

Might be a bit confusing, but just know that it seems Nikon is partnering with Tamron and Sigma on its Z-mount and offering its Z-mount users more lens choices at more price points for both fullframe Z cameras and DX-sensor size Z cameras, which is a good thing .

Cheers and best to you.

Strodav, I have that Sony 200-600mm lens and love it. I have shared many shots from it here in UHH threads, taken with my Sony bodies. I am glad it is working out for you.

Did you see the performance results pro wildlife shooter had when he tried using his Z9 with his Megadap-adapted Sony 200-600mm . He got mixed results, and he was not totally pleased with erratic, unpredictable AF performance with the adapted lens combo.

Different photographers can have different results in their shooting. I hope Nikon comes out with its own 200-600mm soon.

I saw the video before buying the adapter. The issue to AF stopping when the zoom ring is moved is an annoyance. As far as AF goes, I've used the Z9 with the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 and Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3 G2 side by side with the Sony 200-600mm and, I believe, what Mark sees with eye tracking is kind of common with the Z9 and telephoto glass and not necessarily the Sony lens. The Z9 has problems with animal eye tracking in low contrast situations, when the animal is small in the frame or when there is clutter in the background, including water splashing. It struggles with song birds in trees and birds with long beaks, especially with lower contrast features like Bitterns and Reddish Egrets. The workarounds are to go back to dslr single point focus or go to DX mode and there are some settings which make eye tracking a bit stickier. I've got buttons programmed for that. Steve Perry has documented the issues and provided workaround for them at Backcountrygallery.com . So far, I am happier with the performance of Megadap 211 adapter and Sony 200-600mm than I am with the FTZ II adapter and Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 and the quality is significantly better than the Tamron G2. The Sony lens focuses faster, when it locks, the lock is good, it internally focuses so the balance doesn't change when moving the focus ring and the full range of zoom happens in 1/4 turn of the zoom ring. It's a really, really nice lens.

Sounds good, you obviously have done your due diligence with testing and shooting, with actual workarounds and knowing how to get the most performance out of the combo. Enjoy.

Cheers and best to you.

I have to credit Steve Perry with doing all the heavy lifting. He did a very surprising video comparing the A1 and Z9 having used them side by side for several months. I was expecting him to say the A1 was a better camera for wildlife, but he surprised me saying you can get the same results with both, if you understand how they work and know the workarounds. Backcountrygallery.com or look for Steve Perry’s vlogs at YouTube.com.

Those lenses are made to work on many different camera's.
Sigma buys the lowest quoted lens blanks, they do not manufacture their own.
Sigma buys the lowest quoted lens parts, they do not make all of their own.
Nikon manufactures their own lens blanks.
Nikon manufactures all of the parts used in their lenses.
This has always been how Sigma has manufactured their lenses.
If this does not bother you and you like their IQ, you should buy them.

To me, it's about the final result, which I read about in the same reviews we all read and watch. Here is a table from DxOMark.com comparing the image quality of 85mm f mount portrait lenses. I bought the Tamron f/1.8 for my D850 and it has performed very well for me over the last several years, but look at whose on the top. Why would I want to spend $2199 for the Nikon f/1.4G when I can get a better performing Sigma f/1.4DG for $1199?

Nikon has it's own sensor R&D team. Manufacture of those sensors is farmed out to various silicon factories with the higher end sensors made to Nikon specs by Sony. Right now, the Nikon Z9 has a very unique sensor in that it has two simultaneous outputs, one for the evf and the other destined for the mem card, that's why it is completely blackout free, yet it's made by Sony for Nikon. I'm looking at my 4 Z S lenses right now and they are manufactured for Nikon in China. Should I only buy the ones that are made in Nikon factories in Japen?

No surprises there. Unlike Canon with regard to its RF mount, Nikon has been open to the development of third party Z mount lenses that do not directly compete with their own similar offerings. We will probably not see the addition of third-party lenses that are direct replacements for Nikkor Z lenses.

On another note, Voigtländer is releasing another new Nikon licensed lens for the Z mount, a 50mm f/1.0. It is the 9th licensed manual focus lens they have released for the Z mount. Just as interesting, is the fact that Voigtländer is also releasing a licensed version of that lens for the Canon RF mount, a first for them. Although the Canon and Nikon versions look very different and are optimized for the different sensors, optically they are essentially the same lens.
