JPeg: What you see in your EVF is what you get on your SD card.

I've heard this said. Is it true?

With a correctly setup mirrorless camera -- yes pretty close (some slight variation in accuracy between brands).

If you can't see the screen due to sun glare, that could be a difference.

If you've over-brightened the display, that could be a difference.

If you've changed the settings to not enable your model's "exposure simulation" setting, that could be a difference.

For JPeg, it is very close when using mirrorless camara's. At least I have found this true for Sony. But I shoot RAW.

For Olympus/OMDS, it is basically true. For me it is how I shoot. I use the viewfinder to generate the image I want using the front top dial for EC and the rear top dial for aperture / shutter speed ratio. If it is not correct in my viewfinder, I find that it is not correct. I want as many of my shots to come straight out of my camera with no or as little post processing as possible. Not having it correct in the viewfinder makes it harder to correct once displayed on a computer or printer.
