I started and then put this one aside for a while, mainly because I wasn't quite sure where I was going with it. I didn't have a shot of the rearing horse so made it from one I thought suitable, and include the original shot for your interest. Surprisingly, I didn't have a shot of a dragon either, so that's a drawing! A fair dollop of grunge textures and some of my stock shots from various shoots make up the rest. I would have preferred a white horse of course but maybe I'll do another some time. I do have a shoot booked for a few weeks time with some horses and hope I'll get something to work with that's a bit closer from the start. Your critique is appreciated if you have the time.

I like your effort on this image you made. Really like the grunge effect, colors, and composition.

St George looks confident and unflustered. If I ever find myself in similar peril, I hope he comes to the rescue!
Very cool result from what appears to be a very time-consuming and labor-intensive effort.

If you were to watch a tutorial showing how to do it I doubt you’d spend more than fifteen minutes watching Linda, but all the hours of trial and error are never seen! Yes, it does take time but it’s better than twiddling my thumbs, even if I’m never one hundred percent happy with the results. All part of the fun of compositing - as you know.
Wow, skills well beyond my abilities. There are lots of dragons on Pixabay which may have worked better.
There are many times I start a composite with not sure of what direction I would be going. So I completely understand your thought processes. I can see you going through a lot of trials and error to get to the final results.
You did a really fine job on the horse and rider. I also like the castle in the background. Grunge effects works well. No one has a dragon in their library, so I think this one is acceptable, but something to my eye seems off on it. I can’t put my finger on why I think it is off.

As you know Curmudgeon, Pixabay can keep their dragons, I’ll simply keep practicing! I just don’t have any interest in using images I’ve not produced myself, preferably by photography but sketching/constructing when necessary. I do understand and like much of the stuff I see on concept art forums but actually doing it that way is not my thing. You’ll have to put up with my second rate drawing skills I’m afraid!🫣 I’m pretty sure you could manage this sort of composite if you wanted to, you’ve posted some good stuff yourself - give it a go! Thanks for the comment, much appreciated.

You’re not alone in thinking the dragons a bit dodgy Frank! It will do for now. If I get a better horse shot I’ll be having another go at this subject later in the year - but don’t hold your breath! Thanks for your comments.👍
I admire your artistic skill. A composition with a story to tell. Well Done.

Thanks SHG. I studied a few classical paintings before starting - and there is a more three-quarters horse pose that I’d prefer, maybe I’ll manage it at some time.

I am with you on this. Grounded in principle to a degree.

My apologies I had forgotten you only use your own stuff. It won't happen again
