I watched this last night, and I thought it looked a lot older than 1966. Although I used to know the Code, I never learned all the subtleties. Interesting video.

I knew the code well enough to pass the Novice amateur radio test. Have lost most of it for not using or needing it for so long.

Interesting video. I don't use it anymore. I barely managed to receive 5 words per minute when I attempted to learn it for my first amateur radio license. Thankfully it is no longer required.

It took me two years to get to 20 wpm. I can still copy it at 15 +/-.

I do not plan a forgiving the FCC for dropping the code requirement. I still vividly recall having to get excused from school and taking a bus to the exam. I was too young to drive and the examiner came to Indianapolis four times a year! I was copying around 20 wpm from a rented code machine. But I still had to watch the examiner count my paper three times before he came up with 65 correct letters in a row. Still burned in my brain some 67 years later.

I can understand that. You probably heard that they're not teaching script in schools now. We'll be able to write in script "code" so the younger generation can't translate it.

"Now, if you'll just print your name on the line, this will be official." A rubber stamp would be just as valid.

You cant learn morse code in 20 minutes , maybe 20 weeks , and that depend on how fast you want to be able to copy . Also you should not look at morse , but just hear it .It s like playing a instrument [ music ] , the more you do it the better you get . have been at 13 wpm for decades , when you past 20 , you copy all words , not just characters.

Right. I wondered what the video was going to show. I think the idea was that you can't just learn dots and dashes. You have to learn rhythm and spacing. There is another video about learning it in ten minutes.

Got my Novice at 13 and struggled with the code. It took a while to become proficient, and it was worth the effort.
60 years later I'm still using CW.

That's good. After the Boy Scouts, I never really used it, although I still remember quite a few letters.

Sounds like learning to read. 1st grade: "kuh-aa-t cat!" Now we see the "c-a-t" and know how to pronounce the word for "cute, fuzzy terrorizer". 😁

Never progressed beyond code requirement for First Class Boy Scout. But it was fun.
