This is the first I have ever seen irirregular and all of those other irirs that you list. irregular means not regular, the opposite of regular. The opposite of irregular is regular, not irregular. The reason it is desirable is not to be a grammarian, it is because of the need to be precise in language to prevent misunderstanding and confusion.
