Back in74 I drove a 1970 Pontiac Catalina with a 400 cubic inch motor and my friend and I decided to see how fast it could run.we were on the freeway in the middle of the day with very little traffic at that time.i went past 120 and if you ask me how fast we were going I would have to estimate about 130 mph but there was no number there.i had to slow down cause we were about to hit a curve on the freeway.

I actually don't mind if these cars driven fast. They were designed to be driven fast. What bothers me is the fast pickup trucks. They aren't meant to be driven fast.

They don't do well in collisions, either.

This reminded me of back in 1968 after the break-in period ended, I took my 68 396 SS Chevelle 4-speed on I-25 south of Cheyenne where I was stationed. The speed limit sign said 'Resume Safe Speed'. Back in those days there was very little if any traffic on I-25 and it was new. I buried the speedometer and still gaining when a gust of wind scared me, and I let up on it. Never did that again. But it did cruise nicely at 90mph.

Someone painted 1/4 mile start and finish lines on the freeway where us guys from the base often drag raced. I let up on it after crossing the finish line. No more top end for me.

'Resume Safe Speed' I bet you won't see many signs like that these days.

I-25 from Cheyenne to Denver is now packed with traffic and has speed limits. Maybe in parts of Montanna there may be desolate areas with free speed. But I think that's it.

When I started driving, I remember seeing signs saying, "End Speed Zone." At the time, I thought that might mean there was no speed limit. I don't see those signs anymore.

I frequently drive alone, day or night, and I won't pull over to the side of the road to let some guy in a big truck, and having small equipment, force me to the side of the road. I stay in the right lane until I need to pass someone. Who knows if someone has bad intentions? Nope, they can wait until there is space to pull around. I'm not a slow driver, and frequently will be 10 miles over the limit (unless it is 25). I just don't see the point in any other dangerous driving habits that can get both of us killed. If I'm traveling very late at night, I have a weapon as well.
