Junior is letting mom Pied-billed Grebe know that he is very hungry. Mom will start feeding him minnows above the surface of the water and gradually start placing minnows deeper and deeper under water in an effort to teach junior to dive for his food. It is very interesting to watch this process.

That's interesting, Bill. I love being able to witness these special times in nature. I'm sure you enjoyed it, too. I've never seen a young Pied-billed Grebe. I like the youngster's markings on his head.
