Interestingly UHH's software sees this AI art as a non-image attachment ,and wont let it be copied as an image in the body of the post. You can see it by clicking on the link and going to the article.

Cheers and best to you all.

I took a look at the image. It is mildly interesting. But I think this result speaks more poorly of the judges involved than it does of the AI or of the image itself. I've pulled way back from entering contests because judges, both through their comments and choices, increasingly seem to be ftom somewhere in outer space.

Maybe the report is real or maybe its not. With useless click bait, issues of factuality are moot.

As to your question of what do I think ? I think that if a toadally AI creation actually won a photo competition then that is truly terrific and is the proper outcome for that competition (or any similar contest).

What would you have if a an artist reproduced this AI image with paint and brush, then a photographer took a photo of the painting and printed it on canvas, followed by a street artist who takes the canvas reproduces the image on the side of a building ?

I give credit to the person who 'fessed up. But are we getting to a point when only the result matters?

Getting there ? Nope, not "getting there" cuz weve ALWAYS been there.

It’s not for me. I enjoy taking pictures, I take them for myself not to win contests or impress others.

Glad to see this topic continues to spark discussion.....
These are the early days of AI imagery…..and it's likely to continue to develop and improve….and meets commercial and consumer demand. Real Photographer’s thoughts, philosophy and shooting activities may need to change as AI results get better and more competitive. Maybe we need (full disclosure) laws to distinguish AI from Human Intelligence/creations so we’ll know what we're looking at and what world we’re living in. Next….AI will be the Judges.

An AI creation is not a photo.

Thaz your take on it. Thaz all it can be. If the contest judge buys it as a 1st place photo, then its a 1st place photo. You can just twirl a coupla dials and put a frame around a sunset and some photo contest judge can award that "creation" 1st place. No real difference from an AI image. Both are derived from reality. The process for each is about equally mindful or creative.

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and swims like a duck, then its either a duck or its AI. Either way is plenty ducky.

It's a photo competition. I don't know if the rules specified that it be a photo, but if they did then it should be disqualified. A poor photo might win the competition, but an AI creation should be disqualified. As should a photo of an AI creation, just to nip that useless thought in the bud.

A duck shouldn't qualify, either. Just a photo of a duck. Which would only feature the "looks like a duck" aspect, and not the quacking or swimming aspect.

I know nothing about how AI works. Considering the photo in question, did the 'artist' just press a button and let a computer create the image, or does the artist have to manipulate something to get a result they want?
