This is an image of my preserved green June bug that I set on a piece of broken tree limb for a single macro shot as a test of the flash diffuser that I made from a large cottage cheese container that I posted a few days ago which has now been painted black so it does not look "cheesy".

The container is lined with aluminum foil and a piece of China White polyester fabric is used to diffuse the flash.

This macro image was taken with a Nikon Z6 and the Nikon S mount 105mm macro lens. Camera settings were manual mode, f/11 aperture, 1/160 sec., ISO-200, and auto white balance. The flash is a Nikon SB-800 set on manual mode and 1/8 duration power.

Thanks, Cindy. Have you ever found a "Snow Scorpion"? They live up your way in the cold and snow and it looks like you have both up there.

Here's a link to these unique and special little creatures.

Great shot and interesting! The aluminum foil lining - what benefit do you think? I use a windshield reflector when photographing bees. Lower the ISO and all that.

Tim, the container is white on the inside so I imagine that it would reflect well without the foil. My softboxes have silver interiors so I thought, why not give it a go on this also?

I've got a "frosted dome" with a magnetic adapter, a grid, and multiple colored gels coming Thursday to play with also. With several more weeks until spring, I'll have an assortment of diffusers and flashes to choose from.

Thanks, Ron. I focus on the eye whenever possible and that makes it a lot easier with a preserved specimen.
