Celebrities are nothing if not constantly seeking adulation....witness Megan & Harry crying for privacy while being paid for Netflix specials. Awards shows have become a joke - and their viewership numbers have been dropping as more real people figure this out.

Too many. They seek attention and approval daily due to their egotistical personalities. If they don't get an "Atta Boy" on a regular basis their fragile egos crash.

I don't mind these people having their "15 minutes of fame". However, they can do it without my participation.

They need to keep adding awards until everyone gets one, so they all have less psychological problems and more self-esteem...

There were 91 awards categories at the Grammys.

Performers need a pat on their ego every year.

The World Series and Superbowl could almost be considered award shows. Which team is the best?

It's the same with the NFL Football Pro Bowl and the MLB Baseball All Star Game, and I am a fan of both and never watch either one of these 'pats on the back' shows!!!

Self-proclaimed important people never miss a chance to pat themselves on the back.

You missed the NASCAR end-of-season awards show. It’s the only one I watch occasionally.

Funny, doesn’t seem that I have missed anything by not watching a single one of these events.

I have never watched them - better things to waste my time on. The most ridiculousness came when the Academy Awards show received an Emmy!

Don't forget the confusing ACM and CMA awards for country music.

Not sure including sports awards like the Hall of Fame is a fair comparison, but it does seem like there's at least one award show on every week most months.

But if you do want to include sports, you should add in all the all-conference, all-american and player-of-the-year honors, though they generally aren't televised galas. (Yet.)
