Easiest Way to Check Shutter Count of Canon 60D?

What is the easiest way to check the shutter count of a Canon 60D? I thought that info would be readily available via the menu system. But from googling, it seems I'd either need to upload an unedited image somewhere (myshuttercount.com?), or download software (which I don't particularly want to do).

Thank you.

EcoMessage v4.5 works fine with my 50D, you need to connect your camera via USB to your pc to get the info though. Sorry but you have to download it from https://www.eosmsg.com/

NB, might find you need the update v5 from the same page...

Canon EOS cameras typically do not store the shutter count in the image file EXIF data like other brands. That's why uploading a file does not work. Specialized software is needed to connect to the camera, if possible for specific EOS models, to read the value.

I use some freeware from https://canon-eos-digital-info.sourceforge.io . Read the instructions / details on the "files" tab to explain what to download and how to extract and run the software.

Thanks, folks. Not sure what I’ll do. But was curious how close to the estimated 100k shutter click lifespan I am. I’ll probably get a new computer next year, and use that to trigger a camera upgrade and switch to a Lightroom subscription.

Today, on your current equipment, you're running a virus scan software, right? If you download and save the suggested files, that software check should occur against the download automatically. My might too ask for a specific scan of the file. These are reasonable and save security actions before extracting / installing the software and getting your shutter count answer.

Thanks, Paul. I decided to try the software because I'd really like to know the shutter count. I can't find the USB cable though. I assume this would work?

Yes but it's a standard USB to USB mini A cable, as used on many phones etc over the years, you probably have a drawer full somewhere, perhaps it's still in the box wherever you left it?

Hmm. Just tried my iPhone cable, but the non-USB plug is not the right type. I'm sure I would have saved the cable that came with the 60D, but I can't find it.

Any USB cable with the proper connector type will work. Online they're saying a cable of type = USB A to Mini B 5 pin cable. This is the 'large' and older type. You almost certainly have this type of cord in your 'cord drawer' someplace at home as they came with all electronics of that age.

If you really can't find one in your cable drawer, call a neighbor. Everyone will have multiple versions of the same in their 'cable drawers', most no longer used as the standard has moved on from this version.

Yeah we moved a little over a year ago and chucked a bunch of unused cables. I think I'll spurge and spend 7 bucks on a new one, lol.

You could drive to BestBuy, or similar electronics, maybe even the nearest 7-11, and get the necessary cable still today. Or, just call a neighbor.

Some useful links there, ta very much, although the 'Swainhart' one appears to be a dead link, whilst his site is under re-construction?
