Someone (Zeiss?) needs to make a 14-300mm f5 lens with 1.4X TC - preferably on a fixed lens M4/3 camera similar to what has been done with the Sony RX10.......and, oh yes, for around $2K ...... 8-)

Definitely post when you get it. I would like to know the time it is taking now. OMDS is at least taking backorders now. They stopped doing that for a while. I have heard that the wait is 9 months to a year at this time depending where you are on the list. Hopefully it won't be longer than that.

I placed my reservation with OMS for that lens in September of last year. I enquired in November if there was an estimate for the waiting time. I was told that they were filling orders that had come in the previous January, a 11 month wait. I thought that I would get mine sometime before this August. In early December, I got an email from them asking if I was still interested as they could send it out mid-December. Replied yes and spent a few days moving money around to pay for it. It showed up on my cart at OMS, I paid for it, and it was in the mail and delivered to me about a week after their initial email. Total waiting time was about 3 months. A few weeks before, a OMS rep came through town and said he was told the waiting time was much longer even with adding a second production line.

As others have mentioned, it is a fantastic lens (best Christmas gift yet).

Photoladybon Loc: Long Island

I have been on the B&H wait list for well over one year. One day, months ago, I decided on a lark to call a local camera store here on LI. He called around and somehow managed to get the lens to me within one week. I don't know how he did it, but I am grateful. I still receive notifications from B&H the lens is not available.
My suggestion--if you have time on your hands, call several reputable camera stores including local and those out of state, and use the advice of the Hogs to determine which stores they might be.
Since no one is discounting the lens and you will pay full price, you have nothing to lose. A small camera store may have one on their shelf and are willing to "dispose of it" to an interested buyer. Just keep calling around.
BTW, the lens is their premium wildlife lens and it's good, but sometimes at 1000mm I have difficulty locating my BIF. I can post images if anyone is interested.
