The other morning I was set up in the marsh wanting to capture an osprey but the fog rolled in. I just made the most of what nature gave me.

Interesting lines!! May I ask why you chose to photograph this in landscape rather than portrait mode? The reason I ask is that I am starting a new study project for myself on learning to see more creatively so I would like to know what you see to determine if I am seeing all I can or, if we see differently, what I can do to "broaden my vision".

Happy to explain my choice. First, it is one of several crop choices I made. The shot is actually just the top of a large dead tree in the marsh (attaching it for you). It's in portrait and has a different feel. When I cropped down to the top it lost some of the lonely, desolate feeling. Switching to landscape and centering solved that. The negative space becomes a secondary subject of sorts.

It's a great pic. Having said that - I beg your indulgence to show it with a tighter crop (fill the frame). Attached herewith.
I looked at filling the frame first and found it to be less impactful that way. Just my opinion.

Thank you for your explanation and for adding the original photo! Looking at the original, I only see an unattractive dead tree. I would have passed this by and not thought twice about it. You, on the other hand, saw much more than I did proving that I need to work on my "seeing".
Looking at your crop with the added space I am drawn to the lines and their flow which to me is very graceful.
Delderby's crop draws me more to the texture of the wood and less on the flow of the lines.
Which would I prefer? Both because they are chapter one and chapter two of the story.
Thank you again!!
