And so my wife...
We have an aging Ford Fiesta (2010) and it is giving signs of being elderly… Catalytic converter, shocks, ratting in the engine compartment, back door getting weird, random creaking and groaning…
Time to get a new one, right?
Prosaically, I was aiming for July this year as we will be traveling for three and a half month beginning in March. She agreed. Last weekend we went to visit several dealers to get an idea of what was available. So far, so good.
Then Monday (yesterday), she decides she wants it NOW. I went to negotiate the price…
Well, we are picking it up today (Tuesday).
So now we have 5 cars!!!
I will drive the Fiesta, formerly her car, until it dies.

I have 2006 Dodge Ram with under 75,000 miles and no major issues. I love my truck and will keep it until it dies or I do.

Well, the Fiesta has 160k on its odometer and counting. No major issues either, just signs of aging… I drive with a Christmas tree on the dashboard…
Oil (it was not reset the last time)
Engine light (catalytic converter warning)
ABS (that one has been winking at me for seven years)
Still get 39.9 mph, mix of city and rural roads…
I might end-up having it for a couple of years unless a major repair rears it ugly head.

Is the engine light really Catholic??? -- and only for Ford, or other makes also?

You really have to worry about those Catholic Converters! Maybe they want you to replace the Christmas tree with a St. Christopher medal. Thanks for the chuckle and I feel the same way about my cars. I would have kept my last Jeep until the end, but having a transmission go out during the Covid supply chain shortages changed all of that.

Your very lucky (for many reasons) your not in California as with catalytic converter issues it wouldn’t pass smog test and could cost a couple thousand before you could get new registration.

I have a 1999 Camry w 155K on it. It's my 'round town car and it runs great, it's been maintained religiously and for the most part sleeps in a garage, there is really nothing wrong with it. I've owned it since it was new. My grandson will be getting his license in another month and the Camry will probably be his first car. As most of us know, your first car is a beater (you beat on it), I'm a little sad to see one of my favorite all-time cars see it's final years with such a fate. I know if I kept it it would go another 100K.
Just venting my sadness.

Hey! I have three antiques in my garage. A 1972 Citroën 2CV, a 1972 1602 BMW and a 1986 Land Rover MOD original. They all run great and are well maintained - as is the Fiesta -.

I used to love watching the antics of the Citroen during the sports car road races in Southern California - many years ago! -- especially the lean when cornering! (Among many of the other legends of the sport, I watched Dan Gurney's first race - at Riverside. Ken Miles (Porsche) was another of my favorites, masterful - every lap the same.)

I had to have a new truck a couple of years ago and bought a 2004 Ford F150 with close to 200,000 miles. It has all the bells and whistles including air conditioning which my old truck didn't have. It has about 205,000 on it now but it runs good. I'll keep it til it dies.

I could probably find some space in my garage for your LR. Always looking for a project.
