Even owls and the tarsier cannot do a full "Linda Blair" AFAIK.
Jordan dam, Moncure, NC.

Nice set. Some may not get the Linda Blair reference but I do.
In an effort the help improve your results, have a look at your processing and sharpening. I really like the pose of the first image. Look at the image close-up, as in open and click to the 1:1 details. Note the light colored halo around the bird's back, pretty much all around the brown of the body. This is a result of over-sharpening. Look too at the WB processing. Although this shot was clearly captured around the golden hour, you might tone down the yellow / gold so the whites are more white, while still retaining the evening glow. I tried playing with the first image in LR, but the WB is pretty well 'baked-in' for the processed JPEG, making adjustments to the yellow, orange, and blue shades difficult. I keep ending up with blue-tipped feathers, where maybe masking the bird from the rest of the frame in PSE is needed to address the different aspects of the image separately. The original might be easier to adjust rather than this processed output.
Hopefully, you'll get more chances with this bird / location, in similar great light.

Thank you, Ken, for viewing and commenting. The Exorcist was released 50 yearsvm ago, so the younger folks on this forum may not get it, I agree. 🙂

Thank you very much, Paul, for your detailed critique and suggestions. My PP skills need a lot of work. Currently focusing on the shooting part, especially BIFs.
I use NC Studio for raw editing, PSE (nonsubscription) next, then Topaz DeNoise and Sharpening - as needed. I see the halo on zooming in for sure.
Let me work on the first image with my limited tool set and skills and repost.
