Thanks for the article. My Dad went ashore on D-Day and fought later in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a combat medic. He would have turned 100 next year had he lived (He died very young, unfortunately).

The link works fine. A true great who will be missed . As a longtime photojournalist myself, and former Executive Board Member of NPPA (The National Press Photographers Association) I have had the pleasure to know and learn from many greats including the late Joe Rosenthal, who made the famed WWII Iwo Jima raising the flag shot.

Tony's work and legacy will live on as an inspiration to photographers, thanks for sharing.

Basil thanks for posting. My Dad also went ashore (on Omaha Beach) on D-Day. He wasn't too fortunate as he was hit by mortar fire. Guys in his squad were killed and he managed to survive and live to the age of 69. He passed on Sept. 11, 1993. My Dad was born in 1924 so apparently your Dad and my Dad were also the same approximate age.

I never knew a better man than my Dad.

Cheers to our Dads and to Tony who made memories come to life in photos.

Jim

My Dad only made it to 59 (his early death prompted me to quit smoking!). After D-Day he later fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he got out and went to work for Proctor and Gamble as a field rep, but after a 16 year break in service, he re-joined and finished out a 20 year career (and had two tours in Vietnam).

Blessings to you and your family. Find comfort in knowing you added years to your life by giving up the smokes.

Thanks for this article Dave...
I actually found Fleur Cowles, (editor) of Look magazine's quote to be so apropos...
”I don’t need a combat photographer, I need fashion. Can you do fashion?"

Having experiencing the same when I first showed my book in NYC... seems some things never change...
NYC is the center of the universe for Fashion... Nearly all advertising agencies involved in same are located there.

Albeit video has pretty much replaced stills... That is the new twist in the media game...
